Amazing Alumni Farhez Rayani: Lighting Technical Director at Pixar!

Farhez Rayani has been achieving his goals ever since leaving Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

Upon leaving school, Farhez landed a position with a global leader in 3D design and entertainment software, Alias/wavefront (now Autodesk), on the R&D team for Maya as a Senior Maya Artist.? From there he continued to thrive and expand his career working in animation and visual effects studios before finally landing at Pixar Animation Studios in 2008.

Farhez is currently working in his dream job as a Lighting Technical Director. ?He has worked on a variety of successful films such as UP, Toy Story 3, Cars 2 and his most recent favourite La Luna. The animated short will be released to audiences in front of the upcoming Pixar film, Brave on June 22, 2012. Recently, Farhez has been working on some promotional short films for Brave and has been contributing to the ongoing effort to add to the tool set of lighting technologies being used for future films, like Monsters University, a prequel to Monsters Inc.

Farhez encourages current and future students to be open, receptive and explore everything that Emily Carr has to offer.? Attending Emily Carr allowed him to set a sound foundation for his career and the ability to play an active role in designing and shaping his education into what he wanted out of it.? What Farhez Rayani got out of following this path was the opportunity to work with some of the most passionate and engaged people at Pixar Animation Studios, and in the industry.
