Video: Metro Winnipeg reporter takes up life of crime ... - Metro News
Last month I let go of the mundane trappings of civil society, and began a life of crime.
Well, sort of.
While I?m not actually a criminal, after tackling the role of a human trafficker for a Winnipeg CrimeStoppers reenactment video, I can now say I?ve played one on TV.
Detective Sergeant Tom MacKay from CrimeStoppers, offered me the sought-after bad guy role after we spoke about the force?s need for volunteer actors for their videos last month.
During our interview MacKay mentioned they?d take volunteers of all shapes, sizes, ages and acting ability.
?I?d like to develop a pool of people to draw from,? he explained.
I had stars in my eyes as I realized: that?s me?I?m a pool of people to draw from!
So MacKay took my name and just a few days later I got a call back?he had the perfect role for me?a boyishly handsome bearded male suspect (OK I made some of that up) connected to a human trafficking ring.
I had so many questions?most importantly, what I should wear?
?Whatever you?d normally wear will be fine,? he said.
Excellent, I replied, making a mental note to stop dressing so much like a human trafficker.
The shoot was quick and painless, and no one from the three-man crew laughed when I flubbed two of my four lines, twice.
The video debuted on local TV to rave reviews. To top it all off I?ll get a DVD copy of my performance just in time for consideration for next year?s award season.
See you on the red carpet.
