RBC Hosts Send-Off Reception For Carifta Swim

Nassau, Bahamas - On March 26th, 2012, RBC Royal Bank, in conjunction with The Bahamas Swimming Federation, held a send-off reception in honor of the Bahamian swimmers who will compete at the 2013 CARIFTA Swimming Championships. Guests at the reception, which was held at Royal Bank House, bid the athletes farewell and wished them good luck at the event. The team of 36 swimmers and 9 water polo players will travel to Jamaica on Thursday, March 27th accompanied by their coaches and chaperones.
RBC?s commitment to the promotion and development of swimming in The Bahamas is demonstrated through its continued support of various swimming events, most notably The Bahamas National Swim Championships.? Algernon Cargill, President of the Bahamas Swimming Federation recognized the significant contributions RBC has made to youth development through its support of sports.? He stated, ?Had it not been for RBC?s commitment to our federation, I can unequivocally state that our federation would not be where it is today.? Royal Bank holds the unilateral distinction of being the longest continuous corporate sponsor of any sporting organization in The Bahamas and I am pleased to say thank you.?? This year RBC will celebrate its 30th consecutive year as the title sponsor of the RBC Bahamas National Swimming Championships.

The Bahamas Swimming Federation ('BSF') is responsible for the development, promotion and control of Swimming, Diving, Synchronized Swimming, Water Polo, Open Water Swimming and Masters Swimming in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.? Working closely with the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture the Federation has formed an outstanding programme that has produced some of the best swimmers in the region.? Kevin Colebrooke, Chief Sports & Recreation Officer, Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture thanked RBC for their support over the years.? Wishing the swimmers success at CARIFTA, Mr. Colebrooke commended them and their coaches.? He encouraged the athletes to do their best and emphasized, ?We are all very proud of you and looking forward to great performances at this year?s CARIFTA.?
The CARIFTA Swimming Meet is held annually in a different Caribbean nation and constitutes the major competitive event in the region.The 28th CARIFTA Aquatics Championships is set for March 30 to April 2, at the National Stadium Aquatics Centre in Kingston, Jamaica. Last year, The Bahamas CARIFTA swimming squad finished in second place, and is poised to build upon their strong performance this year.
